New dictionaries replace classroom ‘old favourites’.
The Oxford First Dictionary has been updated. The titles are clear and the illustrations designed to appeal to children in Key Stage 1 and P1 and 2 in Scotland. (include picture)
The Oxford Junior Illustrated Dictionary is aimed at children in years 3 and 4, P 3 and 4 in Scotland. The text has again been updated and is clear to read. It is interspersed with illustrations which are modern.
These two dictionaries are available in both hardback and paperback.
The Oxford Primary School Dictionary has been updated and now includes example sentences to enable children to use the words in their own writing. These examples are from children’s authors and show the words in context. The definitions are clear and where there is more than one meaning these are numbered. This is a marvellous resource for children in year 5 and 6, P 5 and 6 in Scotland.
The Oxford School Dictionary is recommended for pupils aged 11 to 14. It has also been updated and includes commonly used abbreviations and shows words used in context. Usage notes are given for words that cause difficulty.
These two dictionaries are only available in hardback.
For pre-school, nursery and Reception class children the Oxford First Picture Word Book is a beautifully illustrated, themed first word book. Themes include: - In the morning, All about Me, Words We Use a Lot and Can You Find…?
To support the teaching of modern foreign languages in primary school Oxford University Press has published the Oxford First Learners French Dictionary and the Oxford First Learners Spanish Dictionary.
